What Is 2048?
What Is 2048?
2048 is a sliding-tile number puzzle played on a 4x4 board. Each move shifts all tiles in one direction, matching values merge, and your goal is to create a 2048 tile without running out of legal moves.
- Core objective: merge equal tiles until you create 2048, then keep extending your high score.
- Each turn moves the full board, so one decision affects every lane at once.
- After each valid move, a new tile appears and reduces free space.
- A run ends when the board is full and no adjacent equal tiles remain.

Controls
2048 controls are intentionally minimal, but precision still matters. On desktop you use arrow keys, and on touch devices you swipe in the direction you want all tiles to move.
- Arrow Up / Down / Left / Right to move tiles on desktop.
- Swipe up, down, left, or right on mobile and tablet.
- Only moves that change the board count; invalid moves do not add a new tile.
- Every valid input combines movement, merging, and a fresh tile spawn.

Tips for Beginners
Most 2048 losses come from space mismanagement, not bad luck. A simple positional plan helps you survive longer and consistently reach higher-value tiles.
- Keep your highest tile anchored in one corner and avoid moving it away unnecessarily.
- Build a monotonic row or column so large values stay ordered.
- Avoid rapid back-and-forth swipes that break your board structure.
- Protect at least one open lane so you can recover when new tiles spawn.
